Projects for Equity
I seek to design projects that engage students in big questions around their identity and their world.
The Story of UsWho am I? What is my story? What is the story of my family and community? In this project, students explore their own identities while learning about the diverse identities within the San Diego community, and fostering a culture of respect and appreciation.

Backyard Ecosystem ProjectWhat are the creatures in our backyard and how can we care for them? The core purpose of this project is for students to develop a connection to the natural world, and an interest in becoming stewards of the environment. By observing and understanding more about the natural world, students will begin to learn about the complicated balance of an ecosystem, and the impact of human behaviors.
|
Reciprocity ProjectHow can we show gratitude for what we receive? How can we give back to our community? In this project, students studied symbiosis in the natural world and reciprocity in human communities, while practicing giving in our own classroom and to the greater community.
|
The Zine ProjectIn this project, students studied how authors write realistic fiction to write their own realistic fiction stories. After lots of character exploration, drafting, planning, revising and editing, the class self-published an anthology of short stories.
|
The Nature ProjectIn this project, students learned about the natural world by spending time outside. The goal of this project was for students to develop a connection to nature and to become stewards for our environment. After learning about our local ecosystem, students wrote imaginative narratives about a local animal to help their reader build empathy for wildlife.

Food System ProjectWhat is good food? Fourth graders explored our food system, learning about where our food comes from, how it is produced and processed, and what happens to it if it is not consumed. Students used their learning about food systems to create a stop motion animation all about eggs.

The Boat ProjectStudents use what they know about buoyancy and engineering to build boats that will float their team of four.
