Student Centered Literacy
Building a Reading LifeAs a teacher, I strive to develop strong, passionate readers. My hope is that students in my classroom love reading so much that they talk about books in their spare time and have lists of books that they can't wait to read. I want for every student to find a new favorite book in my class. My goal is for reading time to be a time each day that students look forward to and savor.
Below are some of the practices that I use to build a reading life with my students. |
Book ClubBooks are better with friends! In Book Clubs, students discuss a book with a group of classmates, learning to ask interesting questions, listen to each other and build ideas together.
|
Book TalksNot sure which book to read next? Ask a friend! This resource has recommendations from students about books they think that other kids will love.
|
ReadboxReading at home is so important! To support parents in reading with their child at home, a section of our library is set aside for books that only parents can check out to read with their kids. After they finish the book, they can also check out the DVD!
