The Backyard Ecosystem Project
What are the creatures in our backyard and how can we care for them? The core purpose of this project is for students to develop a connection to the natural world, and an interest in becoming stewards of the environment. By observing and understanding more about the natural world, students will begin to learn about the complicated balance of an ecosystem, and the impact of human behaviors.

Trout in the Classroom
With the help of a local volunteer, students received trout eggs under a special California Department of Fish and Wildlife permit. We prepared the tank and cared for the fish as they hatched and developed. Over the course of eight weeks, we grew quite attached, and we were sad to say goodbye when we finally released them into Lower Otay Lake.
