Food and Culture Fair
Preparing for the Event
Parent Letter
Hello Families, Next week, 3rd grade will launch its first project of the year, and you’re invited! In this project, students will explore their personal identity and our diverse local community. By telling true stories about themselves, their families, and their community, students will come to appreciate who they are and celebrate other cultures. To generate excitement and curiosity, 3rd grade will host a Food and Culture Fair on Tuesday (9/13) from 1-2pm. This celebratory event will be held in the 3rd grade classrooms and is open to both students and families! On Tuesday, students may bring in a dish that reflects their family heritage or culture in some way. Students should be able to describe the food/drink and explain its significance (e.g. What is the story behind this dish? Why is it special to your family?) In addition, please attach a list of ingredients so we can accommodate students with food allergies. Over the next few days, I hope you and your child can chat about dishes that are special to your family and culture. To sign up, please go to the Sign-Ups section of our Shutterfly website. Then, click “Add Item,” and describe what your child plans to bring. Ideally, each dish will offer sample-size portions to 10-15 students. (The idea is for kids to try a small bite or sip; we’re hoping not to waste any food!) In addition to bringing dishes, there are two bonus options: (1) Your child is welcome to wear clothing that reflects their culture/heritage. (2) You can email me a song that reflects your family's culture/heritage, and we'll play it during the launch. Thanks so much for your support with this exciting event. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Hope to see you on Tuesday afternoon! |
